What to Expect

Dr. Cowles will schedule an initial consultation with you to go over your difficulties in detail. During the interview,  information that is important for your doctor to consider will be reviewed. You will be asked about your symptoms, medical history, medications, and other important factors. This initial meeting is typically around one-and-a-half to two hours. At the end of this meeting, if testing is indicated you will schedule a neuropsychological evaluation.

A neuropsychological evaluation consists of different types of testing used to evaluate your cognitive functions. The testing involves taking paper-and-pencil and computerized tests and answering questions. The time required depends on the problem being assessed. In general, several hours are needed to assess the many skills involved in the brain’s processing of information.

Payment and Insurance

Dr. Cowles accepts a number of insurance plans, including: Aetna, Cigna, First Health, Tricare, Medicare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Typically, you will have a co-pay at the time of the visit. Keep in mind that some insurance companies require a referral from your primary care physician.

The insurance plans Dr. Cowles is not a provider for will typically cover visits and procedures to some extent under out-of-network benefits.

You will be responsible for any charges your insurance does not cover.
